Summer Accessories & How To Wear Them

The sun is finally shining here in the UK and I for one can’t wait to break into my Spring/Summer wardrobe.

Each season I like to do a Pinterest board which creates the tone for my look for the coming months. I’ll review my style mantra and look at what I have and any items I may need to fill the gaps.

This season I’m absolutely loving Sezane and & Other Stories in particular. I’m also planning a couple of purchases from Hush’s beautifully colourful Summer collection.

One element I find many of my clients overlook or aren’t sure how to navigate during the Summer is accessories.

Now you’ll know by now that I am a huge accessories fan – for me, they personalise your look, making it unique to you PLUS they’re a quick and inexpensive way to incorporate some seasonal trends into your wardrobe.

So here are a few top trends tips and ways you can incorporate them to suit YOU!

1. Tortoiseshell – whilst leopard/animal prints are still big news this season there’s also been a move towards tortoiseshell.

Like leopard print, this is a neutral so will suit most colour categories and work with pretty much any accent colour you can think of.

Earrings and sunglasses are the obvious choice here. For earrings I wouldn’t invest much – TopshopH&M and & Other Stories all have some fab affordable options. If I was going to invest my money anywhere it would be in a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses – they’re timeless and as long as you choose a shape that flatters your face, they will last you years.

2. Hair clips/head bands – hair accessories for Summer are fun and colourful – perfect for adding a colour pop to your look on those hot days when your hair needs to be up and out of the way.

Decorative pearl clips in particular are hugely popular amongst the instagram fashionistas. This is a trend that will appeal if you’re a romantic, creative and possibly even a dramatic style personality but definitely isn’t for everyone.

Head bands in prints, colours and different textures (think velvet and silks) are also everywhere and again, offer a great solution to a bad hair day!

3. Straw bags – a timeless ‘trend’ that comes back every summer, if you don’t have one yet, now is the time to get one!

There are some great options out there – from large baskets through to cute circular cross-bodies.

Remember; with your accessories/bags you need to balance your scale with the item. So if you’re very tall then a larger basket is great, if you’re more petite than something more delicate will work best – you don’t want to be swamped by an oversized accessory!

I absolutely love the option to personalise lots of the styles out there. Check out the Liv & Beck range (pictured right) at Katie & May and Rae Feather, two of my personal favourites.
